Celebrate, Remember... Fight Back!

I hate writing in a structured "style"(..and I am the worst typist in the world)

. I chime in when I feel I have something intelligent to say, and hope some executive(in real life) gloms on and co-ops the idea into his/her own. As long as it gets done and I get home a little earlier to real life, I have selfishly accomplished what I really wanted and felt I needed.

Otherwise, I try to be good listener...although the love of my life says I am not at times.

In lieu of -or in addition to saying: May god bless you for your efforts, let's also say "May your life be further enhanced and fulfilled by your noble and kind contributions". Seriously.

Are you doing all you can for ACS and RFL? WAIT! -don't be offended, -read on...

Ok, that isn't meant to be "in your face", it's a balance of motivation, conviction, and a realistic approach. We sometimes try to help, further a cause, be a part, or whatever in our very busy and diverse real lives, and we sometimes falter because we attempt too much, can't devote the time and energy without RL* interrupting etc. It's normal. So allow me to digress a minute...

I once heard a quote from an estute gentleman, it was some thing like:

All Carnegie-Mellon Award winners had 3 things in common:
A sense of Urgency
and the other two I swear I can't remember...

Volunteering is the most noble gesture one can give to a cause such as this. Everyone who participates is appreciated, and of course, what YOU get is the greatest feeling in your heart for helping those that are or could be facing this wretched disease, and/or remembering those that you could not help enough and vowing to do more for others.

As participants, we wear many hats, and forgive me if I mention two real life and Second life, yeah....that's only the beginning you say. In each we have many roles. But do each of us manage our time we dedicate to each role? I contend this is where we all falter at times, -and it's normal, life is dynamic, but do we make a realisic plan of our efforts in volunteering? It bears some reflection. Hey don't quit, make realistic goals....

....for THAT is where most plans fail...before YOU take the first step.

Realistic expectations...can you devote 30 minutes? before bed? make a date with your RFL/ACS activities.
can you give 3 hours 2 times a week? you decide. Make a plan, ask for goals you can accomplish.

Outlines, WRITTEN (taped to your monitor or the door of your refrigerator). Have a purpose and goal for your activities and gracious contributions.

Every goal needs a timeline of course. Be focused, and make a plan.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Either with a fresh idea, a better widget, or real life has taken your participation potential to poop-ville. Helping is what everyone is here for. When the goal is due, and it isn't complete, Aunt Mary's wedding to her 4th hubbage or serious illness to friends and family, means you forgot to park your pride and shout out a while ago. Sorry if that sounds harsh. We are here for the completion of a common goal. Alas, each goal is a step in a fight for a cure. Awareness, etc. OH and if you are on the phone, answering emails, attending children, and trying to get your taxes done, AND contribute to SLRFL/ACS, then forget what you are doing...Call it a "Senior Moment" (I started when I was 33) It's ok.

Hence, our sense of Urgency....ahhh you thought I forgot where I was going..........

Perhaps Larry the Cable Guy said it best "Get 'er Done"

No wait, this isn't comedy, but I like to laugh 8 times a day minimally. So....

How much time can you devote? Create a schedule.
(I know some can't, but can say "I have 12 hours per week")
Do you have a realistic game plan/an outline/goals
Steps to Execution
A deadline you will beat to avoid being hounded by: "is it going to be finished by...?"
Do you have a sense of URGENCY?
Take pride in your heart and soul for your accomplishments in this and ALL efforts you undertake.

okay....some random thoughts.....

How do you eat an elephant?
well, looking at the massive beast, you will NEVER get started!!
(hint: pick a leg, delegate 3 other legs to competent 'eaters')
answer: one part at a time

To some that manage us:

It's easy to forget how easy it is to stop draining the swamp as a manager when you keep getting bitten by alligators. Keep asking for help and assistance in accomplishig your goal....forget pride and doing it alone if needed or warranted.

From Gary Ryan Blair:

"...Guard your focus jealously. Determine not to be distracted. Without focus, you lose your way… enthusiasm disappears… goals become faded aspirations. Goose your focus everyday through constant care, feeding, and attention.

You will receive no sympathy in the marketplace for loss of focus. The feeding frenzy will begin the moment you allow your focus to wane. You put a bounty on your head every time you lose focus. Focus requires that you get on top of your goals like a chicken on an egg!

Focus requires focus. Focus is a priority, a necessity, and an absolute; it practically guarantees a front-row seat to prosperity. The power of focus lies in its ability to inspire purposeful action, so remember to Focus, Focus, Focus this week! ...."

and yes, we all have real lives, but RFL/ACS is all about REAL isn't it?
I'm thinking very few of us have not been touched, saddened, and harmed by this insidious disease.

Be your best, make a realistic goals, devote time, and carry forth with help and assistance, but execute a good plan with a sense of URGENCY.

Bless you for helping, and mom for just being mom,
Ahab
